A rare hunting case pocket watch with 8-day power reserve - for the American Market
Case: 14k rose gold. Dial: enamel. Movm.: divided 3/4 plate movement, screw compensation balance.
The company G. Süssmann was based in Cairo. The company was founded in 1865 by G. Süssmann and was originally specialized in optical instruments, later jewellery and watches were added. The logo, which was also used on watches, was a pair of glasses. Süssmann was the court jeweller of Abbas Hilmi Pasha, the last Khedive of the Ottoman province of Egypt from 1892 to 1914.
Süssmann sold watches from Invicta, Leonidas and Octava and clocks from L. Furtwangler & Söhne from Furtwangen (Black Forest). In 1928 the company filed for bankruptcy.
Octava is a brand of the Manufacture d'Horlogerie Schild & Co. SA in La Chaux-de-Fonds and specialized in the production of watches with a power reserve of 8 days, realized on the basis of a patent of the Prague watchmaker Frantisek Hartmann.
