Lot 370

Patek Philippe & Cie. Genève, Movement No. 163664, Case No. 268240, Cal. 10''', 27 mm, 20 g, circa 1911
A lady's exquisite, small Geneva gold enamel pendant watch, sold on April 12th, 1912 - with Patek Philippe extract from the archives
Case: 18k gold, translucent enamel, gold dome with date "1912" and engraved monogram "DJM". Dial: enamel. Movm.: bridge movement, gold screw compensation balance.
The case is all-over decorated with translucent light blue enamel and two narrow, opaque white enamel borders. The ornamentation of the back is striking - an oval medallion in the centre shows a finely chased scene with Venus and Cupid at the altar of love. The medallion is framed by embossed scrolling against a background of translucent light blue enamel over engine-turned pattern. The deeply cut chasing created a marvellous effect in the enamel colour - the medallion appears a deep inky blue and the two figures almost three-dimensional.
