Rolex "Oyster Perpetual DATEJUST officially certified Chronometer", Movement No. 72789, Case No. 770006, Ref. 6105, 35 mm, circa 1951
An extremely rare automatic vintage wristwatch "Official Red Semi Bubble Back" with red "OFFICIALLY" writing on the dial and red date, , so called "Ovettone", delivered to the Cuban Rolex dealer Joyería Riviera in Havana. This watch is one of first DAYTONA models.
Case: 18k gold, screw back ref. 6105, Rolex "Super Oyster" crown, reeded bezel, gold-plated Rolex buckle. Dial: silvered, very rare dial with printing Joyería Riviera. Movm.: rotorwind movement, Hunter calibre, Glucydur screw balance.
Reference 6105 is not only one of the rarest of the vintage Rolex models but also one of the most wearable and striking designs - thanks to its generous proportions. It is one of the first DATEJUSTS and the large version of the Bubble Back, the Ovettone (large bubble), as the collectors like to call it. This rare example stands out because of its charmingly aged silvered dial with the red "officially" signature and the red date disc - it is certainly a perfect addition to any Rolex collection.
In 1943 Don Julio Abislaiman and his 2 sons Jose and Juan established Joyería Riviera in Havana, Cuba on the very elegant Galiano Boulevard. The store was considered the Tiffany's of Havana. After the first few months of the Revolution in 1960, the family closed shop and moved to Puerto Rico.
