Paul Jean Garnier, Paris / A. Demeur, Horloger de la Cour à Bruxelles, Height 110 mm, circa 1830
An ornamental hour repeating carriage clock with half hour and hour self strike, alarm, calendar with "Garnier" escapement - a development of the "Debaufre" and the "Sully" escapement
Case: bronze, firegilt, florally engraved, facet glazed on five sides. Dial: enamel, florally engraved gilt mask. Movm.: full plate movement, 1 hammer / 1 bell, 3 barrels for going train, hour strike and alarm, fine platform with Sully escapement, ring balance.
A. Demeur was the watch and clockmaker to the King of France, Charles X (1824-1830).
Paul Jean Garnier Paris (1801-1869)
He was a student of Antide Janvier and still today an important watch and clock maker and owner of different patents, e.g for escapements and other watch systems. In 1825 he founded his own shop for clocks and watches, which is pursued until today. In 1916 his son Paul bequeathed his excellent watch and clock collection to the Louvre.
