Pierre Girard, Atelier des Courvoisier Frères, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Height 170 mm, circa 1840
An intricate carriage clock with quarter repeater, quarter hour / hour self strike, alarm and date with original leather-covered travelling box
Case: brass, gilt, chased, facet glazed on five sides, chased handle on top. Dial: enamel. Movm.: rectangular-shaped brass movement, 3 hammers / 2 bells, 3 barrels for going train, hour strike and alarm, very fine decorated rack strike levers applied on the back side, platform with spring detent escapement, gold ring balance.
Pierre Girard, Henri-Louis Maillardet (1790-1842), Fritz (Frédéric-Alexandre) Courvoisier (1799-1854, commander-in-chief of the Neuenburg Revolution of 1848), Charles-Frédéric Klentschi (1774-1854) and Louis Klentschi (1806-1881) all worked at the workshop of Courvoisier Frères in La Chaux-de-Fonds. These men were some of the best makers in Neuenburg at the time.
