An exquisite skeletonized, enamel decorated Directoire mantle regulator with visible movement, centre seconds, date and half hour / hour self strike
Case: brass, blue enamel and white marble. Dial: enamel chapter ring, Roman numerals, rare outer Republican thirty day calendar ring, opaque cobalt blue enamelled bezel with golden stars, framed by a gilt border with chased decor. Movm.: circular brass full plate movement, 2 barrels, 1 hammer / 1 bell, count wheel, 8 day-movement, pin wheel escapement, pendulum with spring suspension and sunburst Medusa pendulum bob.
The visible movement is surmounted by rocailles and foliage and supported by two gilt bronze tritons blowing conches. The tritons sit on the front one of the two parallel arches that stand on a rectangular white marble base. The base rests on four spinning top feet and is adorned with a bas relief of playing putti in the style of Clodion. The front arch is decorated with opaque cobalt blue enamel and garlands of gold and red flowers and lyres on the rectangular supports.
