An exquisite bloodstone ensemble, consisting of a verge pocket watch with matching chatelaine and attached necessaire
Case: 18k gold, heliotrope. Chatelaine and necessaire - 18k gold and gilt brass, heliotrope, onyx and coral, diamond thumbpiece. Dial: enamel. Movm.: fine full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance.
This exquisitely finished pocket watch has a strikingly opulent outer case made of a gold-set bloodstone shell and is decorated with chased rococo-style gold mountings with volutes and rocailles, a winged putto and a pair of billing doves. The two-part chatelaine ornamented with flower scrolls has a length of 140 mm. It has two egg-shaped scent containers and seven figural good luck charms made of coral and onyx. The necessaire is a small, tapered case made from bloodstone with corresponding, chased gold mountings with volutes and rocailles, flower scrolls, a sphinx and a heron. The hinged lid has a diamond-studded pusher for opening the case. Inside are a pair of scissors, small ivory tablets, a tiny folding knife, a quill and an awl with a little ear spoon.
