Fritz Piguet & Bachmann à Genève, Case No. 5797, 50 mm, 109 g, circa 1881
A rare Geneva pocket watch - "Chronometre" - with two time zones and split seconds chronograph
Case: 18k rose gold, polished, à goutte, tiered, numbered and signed gold dome with engraving, pushers for split seconds chronograph at "9" and in the crown. Dial: enamel, two subsidiary dials indicating the two time zones with radial Roman hours (left side) and Arabic hours (right side), auxiliary seconds, signed, spade hands. Movm.: bridge movement, nickel-plated, "fausses côtes" decoration, 2 barrels with tandem winding and 2 mirror-polished click on the top, index spring fine adjusting device, gold screw compensation balance, counterpoised lever.
Fritz Piguet & Bachmann
The Geneva based company Fritz Piguet & Bachmann was the winner of a great many medals at international exhibitions and competitions. Company owners were Fritz Piguet and Louis Bachmann; the name was later changed to "Fritz Piguet & Bachmann, Genève, L. Bachmann successeur". It was most famous for its highly complicated watches - in 1893 a minute repeater with moon phase, perpetual calendar and chronograph function was delivered to the king of Romania. The company's "régleurs" were Fritz Piguet and renowned watchmaker A. Favre-Rochat. The company was taken over by Maison M. Bader in 1913.
