Lot 188
International Watch Co., Schaffhausen "Golf-Club Automatic SL", Movement No. 2090594, Case No. 2197455, Ref. 1830, Cal. 8541B, 34 x 41 mm, circa 1972
A sportive, automatic wristwatch with date
Case: steel, screw back, IWC steel bracelet with deployant clasp. Dial: black. Movm.: rotorwind movement, Glucydur balance.
IWC developed a variant of its Yacht Club collection that was called SL between 1965 and 1985. It is not clear what "SL" stands for - favourites are either Sports Line or Steel Line. The company sold no more than around 1,000 examples of the Golf Club model - this makes them highly sought after collector’s pieces today.
The Golf Club SL has its reference number engraved on the lugs instead on the back of the case as usual. There are various models of the 34 mm version available, either with a C.8541B or C.854B calibre, with or without the date window and with two possible dials, either brushed silver or polished black.
While the dial has an elegant classic look, there is also a kind of sporty side to the watch that is epitomized by the Luminova indexes and hands and the cushion-shaped steel case.
