Omega "Chronometer Speedsonic, f300Hz", Movement No. 38418801, Ref. 188.0001 / 388.0800, Cal. 1255 (Basis ESA), 42 x 44 mm, circa 1975
An electromechanical "cult" vintage wristwatch with chronograph
Case: steel, screw back with Seamaster logo, "Brevet 508925" (Ervin Piquerez, patent: improved timepiece casing, 1969), "Omega" bracelet and deployant clasp. Dial: anthracite. Movm.: quartz-driven precision tuning fork movement (Movement Licensed Bulova & Pat.).
The Omega Speedsonic is very rare and certainly has cult status amongst collectors of fine Omega watches. The striking original anthracite grey dial has three auxiliary dials for the small second, 30 minute counter and 12 hour counter. The hour inxdexes are luminous and the hands are white - the chronograph hand is light blue and stands out beautifully from the dark dial. The tuning fork movement calibre 1255 is fitted with an ESA-based calibre 9210 (licensed by Bulova) and is in perfect working order. The chronograph functions including the reset jump to zero sharply.
