Cartier à Paris, "Santos", Case No. 6948 12667, 25 x 34 mm, circa 1910
An early and elegant wristwatch
Case: platinum, screwed on yellow gold back, crown set with sapphire cabochon, two-tone gold deployant clasp. Dial: silvered. Movm.: bridge movement, screw compensation balance.
Designed in 1904, the production of the Cartier Santos began in 1911.
Louis Cartier created the "Santos" model in 1904 for his friend, the famous pilot Alberto Santos-Dumont. It is particularly remarkable because this is the first wristwatch for gentlemen as well as the first aviator’s watch ever produced by Cartier.
This watch is illustrated and described in Osvaldo Patrizzi, "White Cartier", Antiquorum Editions 2006, No. 2.
