Lot 691

Paul Buhre St. Petersburg, "Hoflieferant seiner Majestät", Case No. 101216, 54 mm, 130 g, circa 1910
A decorative pocket watch in a hunting case
Case: silver, applied monogram. Dial: enamel. Movm.: divided 2/3 plate movement, screw compensation balance.
The magnificently executed coat of arms of the Russian Empire with offset blue ribbons and additional anchor and axe, set on a case with exquisite engine-turned pattern, recalls the grand days of the Russian Navy - or more likely, the Russian Railway? The small town of Bologoje is far from the sea but has been a hub for the St Petersburg-Moscow railway since the mid-19th century. The engraving dedicates the piece to "The driver (or engineer) 1st grade at the Bologoje depot, Michail Fedorovič Šekurov, for his long service" (translated by Johannes Woda).
