Lot 688
Attributed to the Hahn brothers, 54 mm, 107 g, circa 1800
A south German pocket watch with a four hour dial in the manner of Benjamin Franklin
Case: silver. Dial: enamel. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, open barrel, cylinder escapement, five-arm brass balance.
The watch has a Franklin dial but the so-called wandering hour hand as we know it from Roentgen & Kinzing, for example, is missing.
It takes four hours for one 360° revolution of the single hand. The watch is obviously in an experimental state - possibly this was an attempt to copy a Franklin clock, which, however, failed at the implementation of the hand mechanism.
