Jacot à Genève, Case No. 6269, 61 mm, 130 g, circa 1810
A remarkable silver enamel verge pocket watch with animated scene from the Garden of Eden: "The Temptation"
Case: silver, case maker’s mark "ALI". Dial: enamel, polychrome painted. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, three-arm steel balance.
The dial with its exquisite polychrome enamelling shows a river landscape with trees and various animals in peaceful harmony: a stag, a billy goat, a lion, a duck, a peacock, a horse and a sheep. The creator of the scene took his inspiration from the description of paradise in the bible to paint this "fruitful and well-watered" Garden of Eden. A serpent circles the separate medallion at 12, which shows Adam and Eve and the fall of man.
