Wilhem Ulrich in Presburg, 64 x 29 mm, 32 g, circa 1830
A rare, very fine gold enamel mandolin-form watch with concealed dial
Case: 14k gold and enamel. Later Viennese 14k gold Austro-Hungarian monarchy assay mark 1866-1872, punch mark A. Dial: enamel. Movm.: miniature full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance.
The quality of the engraving and the enamel work on this case is outstanding. The instrument is accurate in every detail, making it a particularly striking piece of jewellery with translucid green and red enamelling and Champlevé ornamentation on the back. The top is decorated with a blue Camaïeu pastoral scene and gold strings; the balance bridge is visible in the central sound hole fitted with a glass panel.

According to Jürgen Abeler, watchmaker Wilhelm Ulrich became a master in Bratislava in 1823.
