An ornamental enamel singing bird box
Case: metal, maker's punch mark "EB". Rectangular box with engraved rounded corners. The top part with allover polychrome enamelling and a painted pastoral scene; central oval enamel plaque with painted scene of a young girl on a swing, which covers the singing bird automaton. The sides are decorated with polychrome enamel paintings of alpine lakes on engine-turned pattern, framed by opaque white and translucent cobalt-blue enamel borders. A front slide activates the automaton. Winding arbor in the base. Automaton mechanism: rectangular full-plate brass movement, bellows, barrel, bird with moving wings and tail before a pierced and engraved brass grill.
