An exquisite gold enamel vinaigrette studded with half-pearls and diamonds
Case: gold, enamel, half-pearls, diamonds.
The case is shaped like a corn sheaf, a painting of which is shown on the hinged lid; the opaque enamel picture is framed by a half-pearl border. Sides and floor are decorated with translucent cobalt blue enamelling on engine-turned ground - on the floor is an engraved wheat sheaf in a narrow white frame that is repeated around the edge of the lid. The lid opens to reveal a finely pierced grille with scrolling flowers which conceals the sponge compartment.
A nearly identical vinaigrette is held in the Khalili Collection and is attributed to Bessière and Schneider.
