Jules Lecoultre, Case No. 42759, 55 mm, 138 g, circa 1894
A gentleman's remarkable pocket watch with decimale time
Case: silver. Dial: enamel. Movm.: divided 4/5 plate movement, screw compensation balance.
Decimal watches became popular for a second time around the end of the 19th century; this silver pocket watch dates from that period and has as many as three hour indicators on the dial: next to the traditional 12-hour ring are auxiliary 10-hour and 24-hour dials. The seconds are also displayed in both 60 and 100 divisions. The dial has a blue, gold and black colour scheme and is very finely executed. The back of the case is lovingly decorated with a vivid equine engraving.
