A gentleman's remarkable gold enamel pocket watch with matching diamond-set chatelaine
Case: 20k gold, back and bezels with translucent cobalt blue enamelling and engine-turned pattern; cut diamonds in star shaped settings, fine white enamel frame; charge mark crossed double "L": Henri Clavel and Jean-Francois Kalendrin (1782-1789), Parisian guild punch mark "P84" of 1784, case maker's punch mark "JLC(?)" with "Fleur de Lys". Matching four-part chatelaine with six tablets in different sizes and shapes: translucent cobalt blue enamel with engine-turned pattern, diamonds in star shaped settings; two watch keys and two diamond-studded drop beads. Dial: enamel, Arabic numerals, gold "Poker & Beetle" hands. Movm.: full capsular movement, keywind, gilt, signed, cylinder escapement, raised barrel, three-arm ring balance.
Gustav Adolf Adamson
Adamson was a native of Sweden. In 1773 he was recorded as a watchmaker in Paris, where he formed a partnership with Millenet. Adamson became a master in 1788 and worked until around 1813.
