Joseph Revel à Paris, Nr. 2885, 34 mm, 40 g, circa 1800
A lady's important miniature gold enamel pocket watch with musical movement, studded with half pearls "The Young Bacchus"
Case: 18k rose gold, back with translucent cobalt blue enamelling on engine-turned ground, with central polychrome enamel scene: young Bacchus sitting in a wheelbarrow, pushed by a putto; the bezels on both sides studded with half pearls, signed and numbered dome, reeded band. Dial: two-coloured gold, chapter ring with inlaid Arabic Breguet numerals, polished centre with engraving of a putto and a butterfly on a seesaw, blued spade hands. Movm.: bridge movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, barrel for going train, pinned barrel for musical movement with vibrating blades, three-arm ring balance.
We only know of very few ladies’ pendant watches with a musical movement of such a small size. This timekeeper is also in exquisite condition and the quality of the enamel painting and the engraved scene on the dial is outstanding.
