A very fine Vienna pair-cased quarter repeating coach clock with alarm
Case: outer case - silver, shagreen, sound holes, large lateral hinge. Inner case - silver, the edge hand-engraved with foliate decor, signed, rear bell, large lateral hinge. Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, central blued turnable alarm ring, Louis XVI hands. Movm.: full plate movement, firegilt, signed, barrel/fusee, solid movement pillars, 3 hammers, verge escapement, three-arm iron ring balance, florally engraved and pierced balance bridge.
Johann Michael Pergauer (also Bergauer)
Pergauer was born in Vienna around 1717 and became a master in 1757. He was clockmaker to the court in Vienna circa 1770; in 1771 his proposal of establishing a clock manufactory was rejected. In 1780 the imperial court awarded Pergauer the sum of 150 gulden for a metal stamping machine. Pergauer died in 1791.
