Moyse Gevril Fils, Le Locle, Case No. 1911, 53 mm, 120 g, circa 1810
A gentleman's early automatic pocket watch with early oscillating weight winding movement and regulator dial
Case: 18k rose gold, polished, case maker's punch mark "JJ". Dial: regulator dial, enamel, enamel chapter ring with radial Roman hours, centre seconds, power reserve indicator at ''12'', gold Breguet hands. Movm.: oscillating weight winding movement, firegilt, frosted, ring balance, cylinder escapement.
Moyse Gevril (Moÿse - Gevrille) was born in 1749 in Le Locle as the son of Jacques Gevril. He lived in Crêt Vaillant near Le Locle and became a master watchmaker in 1784; Gevril created pocket watches with an automatic winding mechanism by an oscillating weight. e supplied watches to Ph. Du Bois & Fils and is recorded in their archives as having delivered 18 timekeepers, most likely with automatic winding systems. Moyse Gevril founded the company Moyse Gevril & Fils and died around 1791.
