An elegant hunting case pocket watch
Case: 18k gold, engine-turned, reeded band, à goutte, numbered and signed gold dome, case maker's punch mark "JJ". Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, signed, blued Breguet hands. Movm.: bridge movement, keywind, German silver, signed, club-tooth lever escapement with long fork, gold screw compensation balance, engraved regulator scale with long index hand, counterpoised lever.
Jules Juergensen (1808-1877)
He was born in Le Locle 1808 as son of the watchmacker Urban Jürgensen (grandson of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet). In Kopenhagen Juergensen received his training in the watchmaking business of his family and in addition studied mathematics, astronomy and foreign languages. Shortly after the death of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet, Juergensen went to Switzerland and opened a watch manufactory in Le Locle. His precision watches gained worldwide recognition.
