A fine and very rare Swiss gold enamel musical box
Case: 18k gold, case makers punch mark "R" with dots in an oval, third gold standard mark of Geneva 1809-1814, Geneva 18k gold stamp 1815-1881.
Satchel-shaped, the hinged lid and the back enamelled in translucent grey-blue on engine-turned pattern framed by a Champlevé border of translucent blue and opaque white flowers and gold foliage on a light-blue ground. A centred opaque enamelled panel with a bouquet of summer flowers against a grey-blue ground on the lid simulating the clasp of a satchel; borders with chased foliate decor; the curved sides with reeded band decor. The back side with winding aperture, the inner with the musical movement. Musical movement: Satchel-shaped pinned-disc musical mechanism (sur plateau) with 17 vibrating blades.
