A table chronometer of museum quality with one-minute tourbillon - tested at the Observatory Neuchâtel in 1946 and achieved the first price - with the original chronometer rating certificate of the Observatory Neuchâtel "Bulletin 1ère Classe de l'Observatoire Astronomique et Chronométrique de Neuchâtel" and the original award certificate of the l'Observatoire Cantonal "Premier Prix", accompanied by an original photo of Jämes-C. Pellaton with his handwritten dedication and the original wooden transport box with leather carrying strap
Case: mahogany, polished, flat-glazed screw bezel; on reverse side wedge-shaped glazed presentation bottom with hinge, wooden transportation box. Dial: silvered, inlaid radial Roman numerals, auxiliary seconds, 56h power reserve indicator, blued spade hands. Movm.: 4/5 plate movement, very finely frosted and gilt, signed, dated, numbered: 6170, with cartouche: JCP-2, chain/fusée, very finely polished, matted and bevelled 1 minute rotation cage, pivoted detent chronometer escapement with ruby endstones on escape wheel and pivoted detent, platinum counterweight, blued hairspring with regulator and gold regulator scale, Guillaume balance, 20 gold weight and regulator screws, pierced balance cock, large chatoned deep blue sapphire bearing jewel.
The undisputed master of tourbillons, Jämes-C. Pellaton
Jämes-C. Pellaton only ever created five watches examples of the type "navy deck watch" and only one of them, the watch at hand, was presented for testing at an observatory, where it promptly won first prize. All in all only 10 of his tourbillons took part in observatory tests. This exceptional precision clock was adjusted by the master "regleur" Louis Augsburger in Le Locle.
The watch with tourbillon carriage was an ultimate in precision timekeeping. From the 1920’s to the 1940’s, Jämes-C. Pellaton (ca. 1880 -1954) was one of the most esteemed maker of tourbillons and tourbillon carriages, which he supplied to the most prestigious companies including Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Girard-Perregaux, Ulysse Nardin. He learned his craft from his father, also an esteemed tourbillon maker. In design he followed his father, working on the same type of ebauches. He became director of the horological school in Le Locle, which in 1943 awarded him the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa, one of only three awarded at the time.

Georges Scheren founded the well known Mido watch company as early as 1918. The company has its seat is in Le Locle in the heart of the Swiss Jura Mountains.
