Tinnebac à Orleans, 35 mm, 47 g, circa 1635
A decorative and very fine one-handed pre-balance spring watch
Case: silver with lavish floral chasing and engraving, large lateral hinge, turning disc pendant. Dial: silver, Champlevé, inlaid radial Roman numerals, very fine ornamental flower engraving in the centre, stylized leaf decor at the border, single gilt filigree hand. Movm.: full plate movement, firegilt, signed, applied floral decorations, gut/fusee, baluster movement pillars, verge escapement, applied blued click work, iron ring balance without balance spring, florally engraved and pierced balance cock.
This watch was cast, chased and engraved by a master silversmith who worked with designs of great illustrators such as J. Theodor de Bry (1561-1623) or Antoine de Jacquard (1609-1652).
