Girard-Perregaux, Chaux de Fonds, Case No. 51363, 54 mm, 185 g, circa 1873
A gentleman's magnificent pocket watch with one-minute tourbillon
Case: 18k gold, lavishly florally hand-engraved, signed and engine-turned gold dome, "Chronometro, Girard Perregaux, Chaux-de-Fonds", glazed movement. Dial: silvered, applied floral gold ornaments, chased, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, "Fleur de Lys" hands. Movm.: bridge movement, German silver, stripe-decorated, mirror-polished pink gold train, screwed gold chaton, wolfteeth winding wheels, finely mirror-polished, bevelled steel tourbillon cage - second type of Guinand's steel carriage - under mirror-polished steel bridge, gold screw compensation balance, fine adjusting device, "anti-galop" feature.
The amplitude limiting device ("anti-galop" feature)
A small blued steel pin which is fixed on one of the turns of the balance spring and at right angles to its surface, forms the amplitude limiting device (the "anti-galop" feature); the pin is mounted in such a way that in case of too large an amplitude of the balance spring, it blocks the gap between two upright pins and suppresses the further turn of the balance.
