Case: 18k gold, engine-turned, reeded band, pusher for repetition via pendant, slide to block the repater. Dial: enamel, Arabic numerals, blued Breguet hands. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, signed, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, chain/fusee, cylinder escapement, three-arm ring balance, sector-shaped, skeletonized, florally engraved balance cock, chatoned diamond endstone on balance.
Pierre Louis (Louis) Berthoud (1754-1813)
Pierre Louis (Louis) Berthoud began his apprenticeship with his father Pierre (1740-1767) at the early age of twelve. Such was his outstanding talent that his uncle Ferdinand Berthoud (1727-1807) took him to Paris, where Louis followed his uncle as Horloger de la Marine in 1807; upon his death in 1813 Motel - who had been his apprentice - took over the position. Motel was later succeeded by his nephews Louis and Charles Auguste.
