A pair-cased pocket watch with spring detent escapement from Barrauds "Earnshaw Series"
Case: outer case - silver, polished, à goutte, inner case - silver, polished, case maker's punch mark "TG". Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, signed, numbered, gold Breguet hands. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, chain/fusee, moulded pillars, spring detent escapement, three-arm brass balance, balance cock signed and numbered, "sugar tongs"- temperature compensation for blued balance spring, chatoned endstone on balance, chatoned sapphire endstone on escape wheel.
This pocket chronometer is part of the so-called "Earnshaw Series", a number of pocket chronometers that are very likely to have been created by Thomas Earnshaw. They are all fitted with a mechanism only Earnshaw used at the time: this number 10/5342 as well as five other known watches with the numbers 7/5227, 13/5345, 28/ 5812, 31/5815 and 32/5816 all use the so-called "sugar tongs" temperature compensation.
