Johann Kesborer, Ulm, Height 350 mm, circa 1670
A rare German bracket clock with quarter hour / hour self strike
Case: fruitwood, ebony veneered, moulded base and cornice, hipped upper part, four bracket feet, hinged iron plate with two integrated bells on the back side. Dial: brass dial plate with open-worked and screwed on, silvered Baroque decoration: strapwork, rocailles and flower bouquets. Applied brass chapter ring with inlaid radial Roman numerals, florally engraved centre part, Baroque iron hands, front pendulum. Movm.: square brass full plate movement, 110 x 110 mm, signed, gilt, 3 standing barrels for going train and quarter hour and hour striking train, chain/fusee, keywind, control dial for quarter hour strike, 2 engraved hammers, moulded movement pillars, locking plate, verge escapement.
Johann Kesborer (Kaesborer, Kässbohrer) (1650-1732)
Kaesborer was born in Ulm in 1650 and elected senator of Ulm in 1705. He is known for a silver pocket watch and several bracket clocks. Johann Kaesborer died in 1732.
