Patek Philippe Reference 3587, introduced in the early 1970s, represents a horological milestone. Fitted with Caliber Beta 21—the first serially produced Swiss quartz movement, which was developed during the Centre Electronique Horloger collaborative research project and operated at 8,192 Hz, meaning that this watch delivered a level of precision which was revolutionary at the time.
With its very large solid-gold case (diameter circa 43 mm, height 12 mm) with satin finish, the reference 3587 represents the futuristic design aesthetic of the early 1970s, with the two-tone gilt dial with applied hour markers and a date window providing an elegant counterpoint to the movement’s technical sophistication.
Produced in very limited numbers, Reference 3587 is today one of the most collectible quartz wristwatches, embodying the moment Patek Philippe embraced electronic timekeeping while retaining its traditional craftsmanship.
