This Cartier Gondole was introduced in 1972 as part of the "Louis Cartier Collection", a series in which some of the brand’s most famous designs were reissued and new models were launched. The Cartier Gondole was the brand’s response to the 1970s trend for bold, oversized cases. The most famous version is the "Jumbo", offered in 18 K yellow or white gold with a TV-shaped case in either vertical or horizontal orientation. This "Midsize Gondole Vertical" features a rounded, rectangular 18 K yellow gold case and a sharply stepped bezel that visually sets it apart from other Cartier models. It has the classic white signature dial with black-painted Roman numerals, a "Chemin de Fer" minute track, blued steel hands, and the coveted "Paris" inscription at 6 o’clock, indicating it was sold at Cartier’s flagship boutique on Place Vendôme in Paris.
The watch is powered by an automatic movement housed in a domed caseback, giving the watch its distinctive character.
