While the Datejust is traditionally associated with stainless steel or bi-colour cases, the 16078 embodies the brand's concept of luxury. It is crafted entirely from 18 K yellow gold and was produced in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
It belongs to the 16000 series of the Datejust, introduced around 1977. This generation introduced significant innovations, including the new Calibre 3035 with Quickset function. This enabled the date to be set independently of the hands for the first time.
The Reference 16078 is the epitome of luxury: the case and bracelet are crafted from solid yellow gold, and the refined surface finish is a notable feature. This model features a unique bezel with an exciting, bark-like texture. This texture is also found in the centre links of the distinctive "Jubilee" bracelet.
The Rolex Datejust ref. 16078 is a watch for connoisseurs. It combines the universal character of the Datejust with the prestige of a solid gold design. The 16078 is the perfect choice for collectors seeking an elegant yet classic Datejust.
It is offered with its original box and certificate bearing a green stripe, issued by Jaufmann Jewellers in Augsburg on 21 December 1985.
