This extremely rare Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ref. 14990ST is one of only 250 examples of this model, making it a true collector’s piece. The limited edition was launched in 1997 and features a breathtaking deep blue dial with the typical "petite tapisserie" ornamentation and the word "Fondation" between the "AP" logo and the full brand name.
The applied hour indexes and the steel bar hands carry a tritium coat and make for perfect readability and an compelling vintage character. The robust 36 mm stainless-steel case is in very good original condition with some surface scratching as is appropriate for an unpolished timepiece. The fascinating combination of matted and polished area and the typical octagonal screwed bezel create the dynamic play of light and shadows, that lends the Royal Oak its sophisticated and sportive character. The watch is powered by automatic calibre 2225 with a special 22 K gold rotor, engraved with a stylised royal oak and the writing "AP Fondation - Time for the Trees". The foundation "Time for the Trees" was established in 1992 on occasion of the Royal Oak’s 20-year anniversary and campaigns for the preservation of forests. The watch is delivered in a special foundation box and comes with an original certificate confirming that every purchase of an AP watch helps towards the preservation of forest areas, which is an environmental concern actively supported by the Audemars Piguet Foundation.
