The Rolex Veriflat reference 6512 is a rare and fascinating wristwatch famous for its distinctive flat design and its chronometer certificate. Today this model is a highly coveted collector’s piece. The watch was launched in 1954 and only ever produced in gold. Production only ran for eight years. Sales were reportedly slow, because the watch was rather expensive and moreover, most customers preferred automatic wristwatches. Production was discontinued in 1962. Due to the low production numbers the watch is an absolute rarity on today’s vintage market. The watch is powered by manual-wound calibre 1000, one of the first Rolex calibres to achieve the official chronometer certificate. It was based on Rolex‘s first proprietary automatic movement, calibre 1030; the makers removed the rotor and executed other modifications.
The Veriflat’s 18 K yellow gold 34 mm case features the typical Oyster style. The remarkable flat design distinguishes this timepiece from other Rolex models dating from the same time. The elegant dial is quite sober with applied gold hour markers and period-style hands. Rather unusual for a Rolex Oyster is the unusually large small second at 6 o’clock.
This Veriflat is in excellent condition with a beautiful even patina on dial, indexes and hands - a true "time capsule".
