The watch bears the coat of arms of Italian noble family Ceschi a Santa Croce, who were awarded an earldom in 1570. In 1880 Fra' Johann Baptist Ceschi a Santa Croce, Earl of Cavedine (1827-1905), the most famous member of his family and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta was raised to the rank of duke by Emperor Franz Josephs I in Vienna; the title would be passed on to all successive Grand Masters.
Fra' Johann Baptist Ceschi a Santa Croce was a member of Austrian nobility of Italian descent and 74th Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta from March 28, 1879 until his death in 1905.
