At first glance the many radiant cut bevels lend the rock crystal case the appearance of a large sparkling diamond. The crystal reveals the magnificently embellished round dial with a central engraving of a small town. The gilt background is ornamented with exquisite flower and foliate elements. The movement is also elaborately decorated with applied delicate floral ornaments and a balance cock with floral ornamentation.
Jan Cornelis is recorded as a clockmaker in Hallum in Friesland in 1666.
