RolexFlorentine Datejust
An exquisite, extremely rare, unpolished vintage wristwatch with date, perfect, textured case and brick style gold bracelet with Florentine or "Morellis" finish
Sold
In the mid 1960s Rolex started experimenting with different surface designs, among them a technique known as Florentine or Morelli finish, where crossing lines are applied to the surface, which catch the light from different angles to give off a gentle shimmer. The effect can only be achieved by using precious metals.
The most distinctive feature of this watch produced circa 1962 is its immaculate condition. The case has extremely sharp edges and has preserved its delicate linen pattern, which is remarkable for a timepiece of this age. The watch comes with the original 18 K gold bracelet (ref. 6765) which matches the design of the case. The bracelet features a brick pattern and is still very tense. It is hallmarked for the first quarter of 1962.
The spectacular gilt dial with a sunburst finish is immaculate, without any imperfections or signs of restoration and features rare, bevelled gold indexes and luminous dots. Gold pointed Dauphine hands with luminous material (changed at Rolex to Super-LumiNova) complete this vintage timepiece dating from the early 1960s.These attributes are usually associated with older Datejust models and make this timepiece truly sensational.
