Die Besonderheit des "Bagnolet"-Kalibers besteht darin, dass es seitenverkehrt ist, d.h. das Zifferblatt befindet sich auf der gleichen Seite der Platine wie die Räder. Diese Konstruktion ermöglicht ein sehr flaches Uhrwerk, und um es noch flacher zu machen, wurden die Aufzugsvierkantlöcher durch quadratische Löcher ersetzt, so dass zum Aufziehen oder Einstellen des Zeigers ein Schlüssel mit einer quadratischen Spitze benötigt wird. Die Erfindung des Bagnolet Kalibers wird Philippe Samuel Meylan zugeschrieben. Dies war das flachste Uhrwerk seiner Zeit.
