Audemars PiguetRoyal Oak
A lady's elegant Geneva wristwatch in near mint condition
The 26 mm Royal Oak constituted the birth of the "Mini Royal Oak", whose first models (6012 in 1980, 6007 and 6019 in 1981 as well as 6027 and 6034 in 1982) preceded the 1997 launch of the 20 mm Royal Oak (model 67075). All of these models were timepieces for ladies. After this point in time most of the ladies’ watches in the Royal Oak range were fitted with quartz movements.
From 1982 to 1985 the number of quartz movements as well as the variations in size (26 mm, 31 mm und 35 mm) increased steadily. The 26 mm Royal Oak watches were fitted with even flatter calibre 2508; the new model 6131 and the new broader 35 mm cases corresponded for the first time to the size of certain mechanical models.
In 1982 quartz met mechanics. For the first time, customers had the choice of nearly identical watches with either quartz or mechanical movements. The first electronic versions often had the designation "Quartz" on the dial, and Audemars Piguet’s watchmakers laid value on the fact that the metal watch cases also bore the inscription "Quartz".
