The dial has five cut-outs that change colour one after the other after every minute that passes. One pressure of the push button starts the countdown mechanism. Time elapsed is indicated by the red cut-outs and the synchronized orange-coloured sweeping seconds hand. The second time the pusher is pressed (which can be anticipated by the alert yachtsman watching the zeroing of the seconds hand) the button immediately stops the mechansim, zeros it and restarts the indicator for the vital final five minutes menoeuvre before crossing the line.

Founded in Geneva in 1962, Aquastar exclusively manufactured diving instruments in the fields of time measurement, depth measurement, orientation and temperature measurement. The collection was divided accordingly into these four areas, with watches for sailing also being added from 1973.
