The composition of the "Museum" range began in the early 21st century and intended to familiarize watch enthusiasts with the most beautiful aspects of Omega’s history by re-issuing models that were at least 50 years old, with strict adherence to the original aesthetics of the design, while fitting the watches with state-of-the-art technology and functions. Each model was produced in a limited and numbered series, where the number of watches produced mirrored for the year the model was originally created in.
The new "Tonneau Renversé" watch is equipped with the brand's unique Co-axial escapement, which offers unparalleled long term reliability. The original Omega "Tonneau Renversé" watch dates from 1952 - a year rich in significance for Omega. lt was a year that saw the birth of the company's now legendary Constellation models. In the same year, the brand was also awarded the Olympic Cross of Merit at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki.
The French term "Tonneau Renversé" literally means "overturned barrel" and refers to the distinctive case shape with straight vertical edges and curved horizontal "stretchers". Whilst typical of the 1950s the design has remained timeless ever since and today is a hallmark for prestigious and valuable timepieces.
The Omega Museum Collection's limited status is readily identified by the watch's case back. The individual number of the limited edition features below the Omega name and symbol engraved in the centre and is surrounded by four segments.
