The story of Joseph (Genesis 37–50) tells how Joseph, Jacob’s favourite son was sold to Egypt as a slave by his jealous brothers. In Egypt Joseph works for Potiphar but is incarcerated after false accusations. Because of his ability to interpret dreams, Joseph is eventually called before Pharao and rises to second-in-command in Egypt. During a famine Joseph’s brothers come to Egypt to buy food. Joseph reveals himself, forgives them for what they did and saves his family by bringing them to Egypt.
According to Jürgen Abeler, Johann Jakob Baumann was born circa 1740 in Augsburg. He is recorded as independent watchmaker in 1771. He died in 1814.
