The movement plate is finely engraved. In the centre is the watchmaker's signature, surrounded by acanthus leaves and an angel's head.
Denis Clapot was born in France and fled to London after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, where he was naturalised in 1709.
This watch was part of the exhibition of the Landesmuseum für Technik und Arbeit in Mannheim in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Chronometrie e.V., from 26 October 2002 - 30 March 2003 and is described in the catalogue "Alle Zeit der Welt: von Uhren und anderen Zeitzeugen".
