This is one of the first marine deck watches ever produced by Lange & Söhne. The series started with serial number 200000 and went to become one of the most successful German deck watch in the Second World War.

The "Präcisions-Uhrenfabrik Alpina Glashütte GmbH" was founded by Union Horlogère in Glashuette in 1909. It took the company three years to produce their first Glashuette precision pocket watch in 1912, which was named "Chronometer Alpina". A Swiss ebauche was used with parts from Glashuette. After 1913, watches with 21 lines were produced for the German navy. In 1917. For political reasons the company split in "Union Horlogère SA" in Biel/Switzerland and the "Alpina Deutsche Uhrmacher-Genossenschaft GmbH (ADUG)" in Berlin after the end of WWI. After 1935 Alpina was delivered calibre 58 ebauches from UROFA, which were used in Alpina and Festa watches. During WWII calibre 48 watches were also finished and regulated by Alpina Berlin.
