After the launch of the legendary Royal Oak reference 5402 in 1972 it took eight years until the Royal Oak was fitted with a quartz movement. To mark this milestone, Audemars Piguet introduced a new design: oblong, yet still corresponding to the form of the Royal Oak. Changing the octagonal Royal Oak into an oblong square with rounded edges and bevelled edges with varied polished finishing created an extremely elegant slim watch. Production ran from 1980 to 1985.
This watch is a rarity in excellent original condition. The case has some very few age-appropriate signs of wear. The "tapisserie" dial displays a charmingly ages look. Some of the pyramid-shaped squares have over time changed their colour from black to an attractive cognac colour. The rod-shaped indexes and hands as well as the metal "AP"-Logo stand out clearly from the dark-coloured dial and guarantee easy readability.
