The Megaquartz f2.4 is the most accurate watch ever without temperature-compensation system. This still holds true 50 year later. It was the first watch fitted with a TSA (Time Second Adjustment) functionality which allowed setting the hours independently of minutes and seconds, as well as with a separate pusher for setting the seconds. This system allowed the very accurate sychronising of the time.
The watch constitutes a benchmark in the development of quartz technology. After the launch of calibre Beta 21 in 1970 - produced during a cooperation of several renowned Swiss watchmakers, who had created the first Swiss quartz watch at the Centre Electronique Horloger (CEH) research lab, which Omega was also part of, Omega began researching and developing their own quartz movement. This produced the calibre family 1500, which oscillates with astounding 2.4 MHz, making it one of the most accurate high-frequency quartz movements ever produced.
The dial is the highlight of this watch. It comes in a bluish-violet shade and is made of aventurine quartz with the typical gold spots, sparkling like stardust. The trapezoid red Omega logo sits at 12 o’clock.
