Audemars PiguetQuantième Perpétuel Automatique Squelette
A limited edition, very attractive and extremely rare steel and platinum cult wristwatch with perpetual calendar and moon phase in a skeletonised version. A pair of matching "Royal Oak" cufflinks in 18-carat white gold is also on offer
Sold
According to our information, reference 25829, like its sister reference 25820, was produced in an openwork version between 1996 and 2013. Out of a total of 876 pieces, only 25 were made in the steel/platinum combination. The bezel is in polished platinum, while the rest of the case and bracelet are in brushed steel. The model has a very subtle and exciting look.
The case has a diameter of 39 mm. It has clear engravings and is in very good condition. Particularly remarkable is the complexity of the dial with four chapter rings for the perpetual calendar against the skeletonised background with matted and bevelled steel levers and toothed wheels. This perpetual calendar is powered by Audemars Piguet’s legendary calibre 2120, which was at the time the flattest automatic movement with perpetual calendar available on the market. It is allover exquisitely engraved and has 38 jewels, a linear anchor escapement and a hand-engraved skeletonised 21 K gold rotor.
The watch is also offered with a pair of matching "Royal Oak" cufflinks in 18 K white gold. The "dial" is silver-coloured and features the characteristic guilloché "Petite Tapisserie" decoration and the octagonal screws on the stylised "bezel".
At the time of its launch in 1978 the "Quantième Perpétuel Automatique" was one of the most remarkable horological innovations of its time. The watch featured the flattest movement in the world with automatic winding mechanism for a perpetual calendar. The ultra-flat 3.95 mm height was achieved by updating calibre 2120, which launched in 1967.
