Audemars Piguet’s reference 6001 was launched in 1974 and available in stainless steel, yellow or white gold and also with diamond indexes. It was the first Audemars Piguet quartz watch as well as one of the few fitted with a high frequency oscillator with 2,359,296 oscillations per second. The deviation per month is one second which could be corrected through a 'seconds setting' pusher and an hour quick setting device, which permitted adjustment to the current time zone as well as adjust the date without compromising the accuracy of minutes and seconds. The design clearly bears the mark of Gérald Genta and is reminiscent of the Royal Oak, in particular because of the 'Tapisserie' dial.
This timepiece is a rarity and in fabulous condition. The oval bezel shows some age-appropriate signs of wear. The most fascinating feature of the watch is the charmingly aged 'Tapisserie' dial with pyramid squares that have changed their colour from black to an attractive cognac colour. Just as with the first Royal Oak series the "Audemars Piguet" lettering sits beneath 12 o’clock and the metal "AP" logo with the word "Quartz" above the date window at 6 o’clock.
