The present steel Nautilus has a deep black dial with striking luminous indexes and hands and is distinguished by its almost mint condition.

In 1976 Patek Philippe launched its first Nautilus model. At this time, luxury sports watches are expected to be as thin as possible, so this large watch with its brawny ship's porthole design is completely novel. In 1981 Patek Philippe presented a slightly updated version of the 3700, a midsize watch with a diameter of 37.5 mm and central second - the reference 3800 "Nautilus". In 2006 Patek Philippe updated the complete Nautilus range and replaced reference 3800 with the new ref. 5800. At 38.4 mm the 5800 model comes in a similar size as its earlier mid-size 37.5 mm predecessor and is a comfortable size for most wrists. Model 5800 has a sapphire crystal back, a slightly larger steel case and the distinctive dial with bar pattern. The watch is powered by the brand-new in-house calibre 330 SC dating from 2006. Patek Philippe discontinued ref. 5800/1A-001 after only a few years in 2009.
